Political career
Political career of the Katsina State ADC governorship candidate, Sen. Ahmad Babba Kaita
Prior to the 2011 election, he was a founding member and a prominent campaigner for the CPC. He was elected again in 2015 and continued representing his constituency until 2018, when he was subsequently elected to the Senate in a byelection to represent the good people of Katsina North Senatorial District.
In 2020, he served as a member of the National Assembly's Joint Committee on Constitutional Review, representing Katsina State. At different times, Sen. Ahmad Babba Kaita chaired the Senate Committee on Capital Market and the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
From 2018 to 2023, Sen. Ahmad Babba Kaita spoke forcefully on national security failure and local government autonomy on several occasions in the Red Chamber.
Sen. Ahmad Babba Kaita ran again in Katsina North Senatorial District on the All Progressives Congress platform in the 2019 election. He won with 339,438 votes, defeating his closest opponent from the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Mani Nasarawa, who scored 127,529 votes.
On 20 April 2022, Sen. Kaita made a formal declaration of his defection from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party. Senator Kaita was declared victorious on 23 May 2022 as the senatorial candidate of the PDP, set to represent the good people of Katsina North Senatorial District in the 2023 general election. However, the election was widely believed to be rigged, and victory was unjustly awarded to his opponent.
